B-21 a Tarpon Springs Gem

The business has been around since 1948, but the name didn't make its debut in Tarpon Springs until 1966.

As the business' last standing store, the Tarpon Springs location of B-21 Wine Company is modern with old school flair.

Its exterior is pretty simple, but beyond the front doors lies a 10,000-square-foot warehouse filled to the brim with exotic wines and spirits. Some shipments are exclusive to B-21 Wine Company and cannot be bought at other retailers in the area.

According to B-21's website, the first store was built in Dunedin in 1960 after owners, the Frassrands migrated south post-retirement.

In 1964 a second store was opened in Largo and in 1966 a third launched in Tarpon Springs.

By 1970, the Tarpon Springs location was considered headquarters for the Frassrands, according to B-21 online.

A grandson of the original owner, Bob Sprentall joined the family business after completing college. With Sprentall's education and his father's business experience, the company found unprecedented success.

The website states,

"Business boomed and by 1983 with sales over six million dollars B-21 became the highest dollar volume wine and spirits store in Florida and has continued to grow."

B-21 Wine Company's accomplishments continued.

They were placed as one of the top 10 retailers in the U.S. by Market Watch Magazine.

So, what's with the name?
