PHOTOS: Brooker Creek Preserve

To get more acquainted with East Lake and its natural wonders, we took a photography hike with the experts at Brooker Creek.

Since we're still new to the area, we decided to further our expertise on Brooker Creek Preserve.

The preserve is home to 8700 acres of natural wonders, thousands of species and a slew of events for families and nature lovers.

One of the free offerings at the preserve is the guided photography hike. Guests show up at 8:30 a.m. and are taken on an hour and a half walking tour with photography experts who know the preserve and the best spots for great photos.

I attended the March 6 session and it was a fantastic opportunity to meet some knowledgable folks and learn more about this amazing community.

We made several stops on our guided hike, which gave us the chance to truly appreciate some plants and smaller species that would otherwise go unnoticed.

With temperatures barely hitting the 60s that morning, we were a bit out of luck as far as wildlife goes. Nonetheless, the hike was enjoyable and educational.

Our guides made it clear that you can never count on any one thing to happen on a photography hike. "It's not Disney World," they said with a chuckle.

At the end of our hike, we were able to ask any remaining questions we had as well as go back to our favorite spots on the trail for more photographs.

I will definitely be attending another guided photography hike at Brooker Creek.
