Tarpon Police Seek Accreditation
Public comments regarding the department are accepted throughout the process.
Tarpon Springs Police Chief Robert P. Kochen recently announced the arrival of the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation on December 11.
The group of accessors from the CFA will examine the current procedures and policies, management, operations, and support services within the Tarpon Springs Police Department.
According to Captain Jeffrey Young, the department must meet 260 standards outlined by the CFA in order to receive accredited status. A number of the standards are crucial to life, health and safety issues.

Once the team of accessors complete their examination, they will report back to the Commission to decide if the Tarpon Springs Police Department will receive accredited status. The accreditation would be for three years.
Chief Robert P Kochen said that the verification by the team that Tarpon Springs Police meets the Commission’s standards is part of a voluntary process to gain or maintain accreditation, which is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence.
