Eco-Bean to Celebrate Five Year Anniversary

The local hot spot will enter its fifth year of business next week and not without a celebration.

Five years ago Eco-Bean Organic Coffee House burst on the small business scene in Tarpon Springs. On May 28, the coffee shop will host an event to celebrate its success.  The celebration will run from 3-9 p.m. with live music accompanying the crowd.  Musicians are encouraged to bring their own instruments for impromptu jam sessions during the party. Along with all the regular raw juices and organic coffee offerings, Eco-Bean's parking lot will play host to food and craft vendors as well as a children's play area. Did we mention there will be a dunk tank and face painting too? The parking lot will be lined with VWs to create the ideal Eco-Bean vibe, according to owner, Rachel Gause.  Parking is available at Sunshine Upholstery and in the …

Tarpon Springs Bookstore to Write New Chapter

The store's new location isn't far, but it isn't Tarpon Springs either.

Boe Rushing, owner of the book shop, said that after a few years on historic Tarpon Avenue he felt it was necessary to begin a new chapter elsewhere. He believes that a large number of businesses in Tarpon Springs profit the most during snow bird season and business from locals is more of an afterthought.  Rushing thinks it should be the other way around.  "You can't rely on a very short tourist season for the majority of your business," Rushing said. "Things happen and that affects tourism." Rushing's involvement with the Chamber of Commerce and Merchants Association has been consistent since his start in Tarpon a few years back…

I've attended many travel agent events/tradeshows and Tarpon never has a booth or representative and it is virtually not even mentioned in travel magazines (Travel Weekly, Budget Travel, Conde Nast Traveler....). A lot of visitors to the Sponge Docks don't even know…   more ›

Whole Foods Market Plans Get Official Look

Conceptual plans to bring a Whole Foods Market to space at Countryside Mall are set for an initial, official review Wednesday.

There are more signs Whole Foods Market is coming to Westfield Countryside Mall in Clearwater. For example: The renderings planners filed in order to get direction from officials with the city's Building Plan Review Committee about bringing the nearly 38,000-square-foot store to space sliced out of the Sears at the mall. The committee is expected to review Wednesday the conceptual plans, which show different views of a modern facade and the Whole Foods logo. Sears would keep the south entrance near BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse and the service and merchandise pick-up entrances on the north part of the building. New facades would be installed at the Sears entrances. The four loading bay docks would be split. Whole Foods customers would access…
