Fourth of July in Tarpon Springs

We've got a rundown of what you need to know for the celebration in Tarpon.

It has been years since Tarpon Springs hosted its own fireworks display, but July 4, 2013 will end that trend. The city is gearing up to light up the sky for Independence Day.

Tarponites rejoiced after hearing about the city's plan to restore the lost tradition:

  • "Kudos to the entire commission for a bang-up job." -Jim Bouldin
  • "Awesome! I have missed watching them" -Kim Frist
  • "I think it's great that we are going to have fireworks on the Fourth this year. It is such a part of the Independence Day celebration, and I've hated having to drive out of town to get my annual dose! Hated worse missing it. So kudos to the Commission for bringing it back!" -Gwen Hamlin
The Independence Day celebration begins at 10 a.m. at Craig Park, located at 5 Beekman Lane, with a picnic and family activities like a bubble gum blowing contest and a water slide.

Admission is free. Live entertainment, food and drinks will be available. The event runs until 2 p.m.

Parking will be available around Craig Park. Follow local signage for where and where not to park.

Folks can enjoy some rest before heading down to Fred Howard Park to watch the Tarpon Springs fireworks display at dusk, which is estimated to be around 8:30 p.m.

Pinellas County worked with the city to waive the $5 parking fee, so the event is free and open to the public.

The fireworks will be launched from Tarpon Springs' Sunset Beach. The public access will close at 1 p.m. for set up.
