Three people were rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard off the coast of Tarpon Springs after their boat capsized Friday, officials said.
A passenger on the recreational boat contacted the Coast Guard via the radio around 10:40 a.m. and said they were taking on water and were need of assistance, according to a media release.
A helicopter crew arrived at the scene in the Gulf of Mexico, about 7 miles west of Tarpon Springs, and found all three people clinging to the overturned boat.
All three were hoisted board and taken to the Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater. No injuries were reported.
"We were already in the air when we received the mayday call with their position, then it went silent," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Jake Ylitalo, a crewmember aboard the MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter that rescued the boaters. "We were able to get on scene and get them out of the water quickly, because they had that radio on board."
