Fred Howard Park: A Natural Wonder

White, sandy beaches and kayaking trails make the Tarpon Springs park a destination.

Fred Howard Park (1700 Sunset Drive) is one of the many attractions in Tarpon Springs. With 155 acres of lush greenery, picture perfect beaches and wildlife to boot, Fred Howard Park promises to be a good time. The park offers a wide range of activities including:

  • beach access
  • swimming area
  • a lifeguard is on duty 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily on a seasonal basis from March to September
  • wind surfing area
  • kayak and canoe launch area

Beach parking is $5 per day, but the park offers annual passes (unlimited parking) for $75.

The park's history dates back to 1945, when Tarpon Springs Mayor Fred Howard was elected into office. Howard had a long career with the Pinellas County Park Board and the area was dedicated in his honor in 1966.

According to Pinellas County Parks and Preserves, the park hosts almost two million visitors, annually.
