Tarpon SWAT Training Set for Thursday Morning

Don't be alarmed if you see Tarpon Springs SWAT members racing around Tarpon Avenue on Thursday morning. It is just an exercise.

The Tarpon Springs Police Department announced that it will be holding a mock call-out training on Thursday morning in the 400 block of E. Tarpon Ave. at an abandoned residence.

Tarpon residents should be prepared to witness some seemingly alarming activity, but are urged not to worry. The exercise will be conducted with safety as the number one priority.

Officers may be sporting their SWAT uniforms and carrying weapons. However, the weapons will not have live rounds of ammunition in them and will be strictly for training purposes.

"We understand the need for safety and will handle the exercise in such a manner.  We also understand the need for realistic training, to ensure our officers are properly equipped and trained to handle situations which they may encounter.  This training does not just benefit the SWAT team and the agency; but, rather, it benefits the citizens of Tarpon Springs as well.  We strive to constantly improve our abilities to better serve the community."
