Beckett Bridge's Future on Agenda for Tarpon Springs Commission

The bridge, originally built in 1924, could be replaced or renovated.

Tarpon Springs City Commissioners are scheduled to hear a presentation about the future of the Beckett Bridge at Tuesday's meeting.

Pinellas County is considering a possible overhaul of the bridge, which was built in 1924 and traverses Whitcomb Bayou. Officials say it's "not cost-effective to continue repairing it," the Tampa Bay Times reports.

According to the Times story, the bridge has "a slew of electrical, mechanical and structural problems." It was closed for two days earlier this year for a repair.
