Two separate robberies have been reported in Tarpon Springs over the last week.
Pizza delivery drivers in the Tarpon Springs area have cause to be concerned about more than being on time. There have been two robberies over the past week where drivers were the targets, according to Channel 10 news. The first robbery took place May 10 when a driver for Pizza Hut was sent to 719 S. Disston Ave. for a delivery. In that case, the driver knocked on the door and two armed men approached him, demanding his money. The second robbery happened Friday, May 17 when a Papa John’s driver was heading back to his store, Channel 10 reports. With fallen officers dating back to 1893, the recent earning of accreditation status and a consistently growing cutting edge approach, the Tarpon Springs Police Department has solidified its place in the community. As the nationally recognized Police Week continues, Tarpon Springs Patch would like to highlight four fallen police officers from the local police department. The names of the following individuals are inscribed on the recently erected public safety memorial in front of the department building in Tarpon Springs. A Palm Harbor 17-year-old is accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl during a party at his father's waterfront home on Chesapeake Drive in Tarpon Springs. Tarpon Springs Police arrested Jared Alexander Alissandratos and charged him with sexual battery. The assault happened around 1 a.m. on Saturday, April 13. The 15-year-old girl had been drinking and was taken to a room to lie down, where she was assaulted, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by Patch. "The victim did not give consent to the defendent(s) to have sex and the victim was not able to give consent due to her level of intoxication," according to the affidavit, which also said that Alissandratos admitted to having sex with the victim. Tarpon Springs Police have charged a 17-year-old boy and are investigating two others.
An April 13 house party turned into a crime scene when Tarpon Springs Police say a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by as many as three boys all under the age of 18. The attack at the "no adults" party occurred around 1 a.m. after the girl became “intoxicated and was reportedly taken advantage of by possibly three males,” Capt. Jeffrey P. Young wrote in a release to media. Officers arrested a 17-year-old boy in connection with the case. He is charged with sexual battery, Young said. Christopher Kaywood, 40, of New Port Richey, was charged with petty theft after police say he entered a Tarpon Springs store, took a variety of items and left without paying for them.
A New Port Richey man faces misdemeanor theft charges after police say he entered a Tarpon Springs store, took a variety of items, including body spray and sunglasses, and left without paying for them. The man then made an attempt to elude Tarpon Springs police by fleeing on foot. In the end, officers arresed Christopher Kaywood, 40, in relation to the 9 a.m. April 13 Dollar General theft. He is accused of taking $35.75 worth of items from the 1947 S. Pinellas Ave. store. According to Tarpon police, the items taken included a Turtle Wax headlight kit, three pairs of sunglasses, Axe body spray and polypropylene rope. In their second annual event, the Tarpon Springs Police Department are taking pies to the face for a good cause.
On Friday, April 19, residents and March of Dimes supporters will have a chance to take part in the second annual Pie-A-Cop event hosted by the Tarpon Springs Police Department. From 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. pie your favorite officers at Publix in Tarpon Springs. The proceeds from the event will be donated to the March of Dimes. Costs for pie loving participants are as follows:

During Tuesday's City Commission meeting, the Tarpon Springs Police Department was honored for two separate accolades.
From receiving Accreditation status to being put in the spotlight for their homeless outreach efforts, it is no surprise that the City of Tarpon Springs honored the Tarpon Springs Police Department during Tuesday's Board of Commissioners meeting at City Hall. Mayor David O. Archie presented two awards with pride. Homeless Outreach Officer, Jose Yourgules received an award for his service while Officer Frank Ruggiero accepted an award for his role as Accreditation manager for the department. The project has been ongoing for years, but after the final touches were made, the memorial was presented to the city Wednesday.
Fire, police and city officials gathered around the Tarpon Springs Public Safety Memorial Garden on Wednesday morning to honor fallen heroes. The memorial features a number of components, including a rusted piece of steel from the World Trade Center in New York City. An area of bricks form a badge on the ground where two 10-foot towers, replicating the World Trade Center, sit in one corner, and a stone slab sits in the other. During the presentation, Tarpon Springs Fire Chief Richard Butcher spoke, along with Mayor David O. Archie and Thomas B.
