Now Open in Tarpon Springs: Mama Lane's

The shop is a hybrid between a coffee house and a yarn studio.

Three days ago, the staff at Mama Lane's welcomed curious visitors into their new space for the first time.

A variety of coffee drinks are available at the shop, including the signature myan mocha, which offers a rare and enjoyable bite. Smoothies at Mama Lane's are made from real fruit and the array of baked goods are always fresh.

And to cater to the bike community that frequents the Pinellas Trail, Mama Lane's offers juice, granola bars and whole oats oatmeal.

On the flip side, the yarn studio is not up and running just yet. Owner, Stephanie Lane said that she expects it to be functioning by March 1.

Along with the yarn component will come classes for all levels of ability.

Lane works side-by-side with three shop employees, including her daughter Blyss Landis, who is the Assistant Manager. In addition to Lane and Landis, there's Alleigh Martorano, the well experienced barista and Ellen Vessey, who is Lane's mother and the Master Knitter.

When Lane talked about the store's place on Tarpon Avenue, said she hopes it evolves into a local's spot. She referred to the idea that people congregate in the kitchen at family gatherings or events.

"We want to be Downtown Tarpon's kitchen, the hang out place," Lane said.

From an outsider's perspective, Mama Lane's seems to be a solid blend of a neighborhood coffee shop, progressive thinking and creativity.

Lane said that she is not limiting herself to any boundaries at the moment. However, she did make it clear that she plans on being in Tarpon Springs for quite a while.

"We're in this for the long haul," said Lane.
