Keystone Road: Lanes Open, But What's With the Speed Limit?

Residents and commuters have been asking why the Keystone Road construction seems to be complete, but at 35 mph, the speed limit does not seem to fit with the location.

Joe DeMoss, Engineering Supervisor on the county-run project, said that although the lanes have reopened between US 19 and East Lake Road, there is still quite a bit of work to do.

DeMoss said the safety of the laborers is why the speed limit has to stay at 35 mph.

"We have to maintain the safety of our workers," DeMoss said.

However, once the construction cleared, the speed limit will be increased to 45 mph.

With about eight miles left of sidewalks to pour and a number of other oddities, DeMoss told Patch there is not a definite timeline of when the construction will be completed.

"If I had a crystal ball, I'd say we're hoping for next fall," DeMoss said.
